If you’re facing serious allegations from patients, and you think that additional disciplinary action should not be applied anymore, then be sure to hire a Texas nursing law attorney who can fully assist you.

Unfortunately, an LVN from Houston failed to do this. This results in disciplinary action from the Texas Board of Nursing. Always keep in mind that the board handles all of the cases that may affect the license from receiving the suspension, disciplinary action, or revocation. However, with a right nurse attorney for the case, rest assured that the case can go according to the LVN’s favor, especially if she has a good defense against the case.

On or about November 16, 2016, the LVN administer Demerol to a patient without a physician’s order. Her conduct exposed the patient unnecessarily to a risk of harm in that the administration of Demerol without physician’s order could result to patient suffering from adverse reactions including respiratory depression.

In response to the incident, the LVN states that she administered Haldol 5mg because she felt the patient needed it. As soon as she administered the dosage and realized it was a mistake he called the physician to report the incident.

The LVN also states that this was her first day working on the unit and she was assigned to the night shift. They had nine (9) patients on the unit and she was helping the LVN staff administer medications.  The LVN withdrew Demerol 40mg from the medication dispensing system and administered it to the wrong patient. She was working with a preceptor and she noted the error and reported it to the supervisor.

Unfortunately because of the lack of an experienced Texas nursing law attorney to help her, the nurse has been subjected to disciplinary action by the Texas Board of Nursing.
