Accusations, complaints, allegations towards an RN or an LVN are reviewed and evaluated by the Board, if they need to be disciplined or not. On or about May 9, 2020, while employed as an LVN at a hospital in Brownsville, Texas, LVN failed to properly identify the patient and verify the orders prior to administration of high alert medications, and inappropriately administered Novolog Insulin 7 units, and Levemir Insulin 35 units, that were ordered for another patient. LVN’s conduct exposed the patient to a risk of harm from unnecessary administration of insulin without a physician’s order.

In response, LVN states she administered the incorrect insulin to the patient. LVN also states she immediately reported the error to her supervisor and notified the provider.

The above actions constitute grounds for disciplinary action in accordance with Section 301.452(b)(10)&(13), Texas Occupations Code, and is a violation of 22 TEX. ADMIN. CODE §217.11(1)(A),(1)(B),(1)(C),(1)(M)&(1)(P) and 22 TEX. ADMIN. CODE §217.12.(1)(A),(1)(B)&(4).

The Texas Board of Nursing then subjected the LVN and her license into disciplinary action.
