An allegation or complaint could be a serious case, which is why a nurse attorney is needed if you get accused of this kind of scenario. However, some who thought they were guilty of the charges failed to hire a nurse attorney just because they thought it’s the doom for their license already. But that is not entirely the case as there is still hope.

Unfortunately, an RN from Fort Worth failed to do this which resulted in disciplinary action. Take note that the Board of Nursing who handles all of the cases may affect the nurse’s license from receiving the suspension, disciplinary action, or revocation. However, with a right nurse attorney for the case, rest assured that the case can go according to the RN’s favor, especially if the RN has a good defense against the case.

On or about February 26, 2014, the RN was assigned to provide care to a female patient. On that same day at 635 p.m., the patient’s physician wrote an order for “Octreotide 25 mcg IV/hour to start ASAP.”

The RN documented that at 7:50 p.m. She administered “Octreotide 25 mcg Now.”

The RN administered Octreotide as a bolus dose instead of as an IV drip dose as ordered by the patient’s physician.

Due to the incorrect administration of Octreotide, the patient was transferred to the telemetry unit for observation.

Because of this, the Texas Board of Nursing summoned the RN. During the hearing, the RN denied all the allegations against her.

However, the Board of Nursing disciplined her license because they think that her conduct was likely to injure the patient from lack of appropriate nursing and medical care.

The Texas Board of Nursing has full jurisdiction over all cases that may affect the RN license. The strictness of the Board also ensures that nurses will only commit to the duties they are assigned to in order to guarantee accurate and excellent performance in all hospitals throughout the state of Texas.
